Tuesday Time Trials

Time Trials hurt. No two ways about it. Some in cycling circles call it "the race of truth"; no tactics, no psyching out an opponent, just raw power. The real truth is time trials reveal all your weaknesses in sustained power, pedal stroke, breathing, and mental toughness. Which is why they also make such good training for all types of bike races.

Jordan Greenberg & Ryanne Carmichael have organized a Tuesday evening time trial series in our corner of New Hampshire. They call it the Mighty Pemi Time Trial Series. Jordan has a simple point system for the series; each race assigns points based on the number of riders. First place gets the maximum points on the night descending by order of result to 1 point for showing up. Jordan & Ryanne are tracking both finishing times and series totals. Times are self reported so make sure bring your bike computer, stop watch or smart phone with a cycling app.

To make it even more interesting (and better training) every other week is a mass start hill climb. The flat time trials range in distance from 9 to 19 miles. The hill climbs are all around 5 miles, though some are steeper than others. All the events start at 6 p.m. but from various locations in the Campton-Rumney-Lincoln/Woodstock area.

Hope to see you on a Tuesday soon.
